Today we launch another Italian delicacy – potato gnocchi. Of course it’s 100% Italian!

A classic Italian pasta, these billowy potato dumplings make for a hearty meal no matter how you serve them: baked with creamy cheeses, sautéed with wintery veggies, dressed in a tangy tomato sauce… you name it.

The word “gnocchi” (pronounced N’YAW-kee) has an unknown origin, but it’s speculated to come from the Italian wordnocca, meaning knuckle. Essentially, gnocchi are a form of dumplings, and, of course, not exclusive to Italy. But their light, airy texture and full potato flavor makes them a unique pasta with a long history in classic European cuisine. Even different regions of Italy have their respective versions. Before potatoes, gnocchi existed but with different ingredients such as squash and breadcrumbs. Gnocchi were the perfect peasant food, both filling and inexpensive.

Since 1920, Conservas Ortiz (Spain) have been catching and processing the finest tuna, mackerels, sardines and anchovies from the waters of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. At Conservas Ortiz they preserve their products in the craft way, respecting traditional fishing methods. For example the White Tuna is INDIVIDUALLY LINE CAUGHT (as in the picture above) with live bait or fly.

The sardines are caught in the traditional manner and cleaned by hand, one by one and fried in Virgin Olive Oil. The result can be seen in the unmistakable texture of their products and their natural flavour which set them apart from the rest. Their products have a taste tender and delicate WHICH IMPROVES WITH AGE and can be stored in a cellar, like good wine!

dolce vita 100% Natural French Almond Oil

Produced in the Loire Valley, France, the dolce vita Almond Oil is a mix of 70% Virgin Almond Oil and 30% Refined Almond Oil.

Our producer selects its raw materials meticulously and uses ONLY French almonds. The resulting oil is an award winner at le Concours General Agricole de Paris, since many years. To retain the original flavours and natural smells of the nuts, the Almonds are ground and roasted in large frying pans and the oil is extracted using traditional methods and machinery more than 50 years old. The oil is then poured in tanks, allowed to rest for several days and is then mechanically filtered to remove impurities.

For best results, the Almonds are heated to lightly toast them to obtain subtle and signature taste, before being pressed cold.

Today we are pleased to launch a real Mediterranean delicacy. Handcrafted Fillets of Sicilian Anchovies in sunflower oil. Imported from Italy, Flott Anchovies are a handy ingredient to have in the pantry. They are great for enhancing any dish by adding delicious flavors with little effort. Packed in sunflower oil, anchovies have a rustic and dense texture. An excellent choice to be thrown into pastas, soups, appetizers, pizzas and salads, to name a few.

The little fish are filleted by hand the same day as they are fished which keeps the freshness of their taste and the rose colour of their flesh. In small doses these anchovies are added to lots of other Mediterranean dishes to give flavour. The best way to eat them is directly in a hot bread roll with a drizzle of olive oil.

Flott S.p.A anchovies are authentic Italian anchovies. They are fished out of Sicilian waters, and carry a well-known, distinct taste and delicate texture. This style of anchovy product is most known for its saltiness, which makes it a perfect cooking ingredient, and of course the classic topping on a pizza.

A traditional method of processing and preserving anchovies is to gut and salt them in brine, allow them to cure, and then pack them in oil or salt. This results in a characteristic strong flavor and the flesh turns deep grey. Pickled in vinegar, as with Spanish boquerones, anchovies are milder and the flesh retains a white color. In Roman times, anchovies were the base for the fermented fish sauce garum. Garum had a sufficiently long shelf life for long-distance commerce, and was produced in industrial quantities. Anchovies were also eaten raw as an aphrodisiac.

Today, they are used in small quantities to flavor many dishes. Because of the strong flavor, they are also an ingredient in several sauces and condiments, including Worcestershire sauce, Caesar salad dressing, remoulade, Gentleman's Relish, many fish sauces, and in some versions of Café de Paris butter. For domestic use, anchovy fillets are packed in oil or salt in small tins or jars, sometimes rolled around capers. Anchovy paste is also available. Fishermen also use anchovies as bait for larger fish, such as tuna and sea bass.

The strong taste people associate with anchovies is due to the curing process. Fresh anchovies, known in Italy as alici, have a much milder flavor. In Swedenand Finland, the name anchovies is related strongly to a traditional seasoning, hence the product "anchovies" is normally made of sprats[32] and herring can be sold as "anchovy-spiced". Fish from the Engraulidae family are instead known as sardell in Sweden and sardelli in Finland, leading to confusion when translating recipes.

It can't be patented, but even after 75 years it hasn't been duplicated by others. Every 8.82 ounces of tagliolini, tagliarelle, tagliardi, pappardelle uses at least 1 gallon of salted water. Wait to boil, then deep the pasta in the water and stir gently at first. Let it boil the time specified on each box. Maybe a little bit more. Egg pasta needs to be ductile. That's the way we like it. Strain off all the water well. Add condiments in the same pot you have used to boil.

It gives us great pleasure to launch the dolce vita range of gourmet wine vinegars from Badia Vinagres, started in 1908 and now a fifth generation vinegar producer with more than 100 years of history.

Selecting fine D.O.P. certified wines from authentic regions of Europe, Badia has developed this exquisite range of natural wine vinegars. The third and fourth generation, Agustí Badia father and son, made a huge bet on R&D in collaboration with the Oenology faculty of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) from Tarragona, to develop this signature line of gourmet European Vinegars.

  • Formulation of new high quality vinegars (I): Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wine vinegars.
  • Formulation of new high quality vinegars (II): Muscatel and vermouth wine vinegars.
  • Research of new procedures of high quality wine vinegars elaboration. The application of these new procedures has allowed the entry into the vinegars market of a new generation: bittersweets of Merlot and Riesling.

Badia Vinagres use The Schützenbach traditional acetification method, which allows aromas and flavours of a high subtlety. At the same time, the bottling system is modern and the tangential filtration system is used to clarify vinegars. The conjunction of tradition and innovation allows Badia Vinagres to go ahead in obtaining vinegars with a distinctive character.

The Company is now led by Judith Badia, the fifth generation, who focuses on energy saving, environmental protection, authentic raw material and continues the traditional method of brewing the vinegars.

The Products Range

Cabernet Sauvignon – the signature red wine vinegar made from the best red wine in the world. Full bodied, deep red and a fruity, aromatic taste. A very subtle vinegar for dishes with vegetables and meats.

Chardonnay – the outstanding white wine vinegar. Chardonnay are the queen of white grapes. Produced from young Chardonnay white wine, with a smooth and characteristic fruity flavour. Specially recommended to spice dishes with white fish.

Merlot – an exceptional sweet wine vinegar – a bittersweet vinegar produced from intensely aromatic Merlot wine, with hints of vanilla and liquorice. Very Sweet, elegant palate, enriched with toast notes acquired during the six months of aging in French oak casks that recall blackberries, raspberries and violets. Best for marinates and dressings.

Moscatel – a signature dessert wine vinegar, made with sweet wine from the white grapes of muscatel variety. It is a smooth, bittersweet vinegar with a characteristic golden colour and a touch of sophistication. Great with salads, shellfish, blue fish and also with desserts and nuts. We specially recommend strawberries with muscatel vinegar.

The fame of Isigny butter goes back to the 16th century. Born from the bounty of nature and the know-how of mankind, between the marshes of the Bessin and the Cotentin and the bocage, lies the Isigny terroir, caught between land and sea. It built its reputation as a prime dairy region in the 16th century. The Isigny terroir has the advantage of a mild, damp climate, is near the sea and enjoys the benefits of the Bessin and Cotentin marshes. The cows which grazed there fed on grass rich in iodine, beta carotene and trace elements.

The quality of Isigny butter reflects all these natural advantages: it is impossible to confuse it with any other butter. It is yellow like buttercups, it has a faint taste of hazelnuts and it is rich in vitamin A. All these qualities were noted in the Appellation d'Origine Controle specification, which has been in force since 1986.

Today we launch an exquisite range of foods from Italy's oldest RICE producer - the Abbey of Lucido, whose Monks have been farming the land since 1123 CE and is now an agricultural hot spot for rice varieties and grains. They were the FIRST to cultivate rice in Italy at the beginning of the 15th Century and their rice strains are the purest in Italy.

The Monks reclaimed this land (now declared a National Park) and planted cereals, beans and rice. Their tender care as a work of GOD, has made their products supreme! We are proud to introduce their Rice pasta, Rice flours, Tarragna ( they grow rice, beans, maize and many other agricultural foods in this 500 Acre reserve).
